Defending champions Gor Mahia on Saturday failed to move to the top of the FKF Premier League table after being held to a 1-1 draw by Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium.

The record Kenyan champions needed a win of any sort to climb above Kenya Police and sit on the summit but were dealt a last-minute blow when Douglas Kibet scored at the death to salvage a point for the 2009 champions.

Joshua Onyango had headed Gor ahead in the 68th minute, connecting well to an Austin Odhiambo free kick for a narrow 1-0 lead.

The stalemate leaves Gor third on 47 points, two points behind leader Police who lost 1-0 to Ulinzi Stars on Friday.

Tusker, who play Nairobi City Stars today at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos from 4pm, sit second with 48 points. Police, however, have played a game more than Gor and Tusker and might lose their lead if either of the chasing two win their game in hand in the coming week.

In Mombasa, Kakamega Homeboyz extended their recent positive run after stunning Bandari 1-0 at Mbaraki Stadium.

Moses Shumah was the hero of the game, as his sole goal in the 73rd minute was enough to earn his side maximum points on the road. The goal saw the forward move to the joint top of the scorers' sheet with 15 goals.

Elsewhere, Mara Sugar came from a goal down to hold KCB to a 1-1 draw at the Awendo Green Stadium in Migori.

The visitors had taken the lead in the 25th minute through Patrick Otieno but relegation-fighting Mara salvaged a crucial point when Frederik Ng'iela forced a 1-1 draw in the final half.
